PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) - Spencer Gloger scored 12 points and Nate Walton had 10 points and six assists as Princeton struggled to a 51-41 victory over Holy Cross Friday.
Playing its first game since senior forward Mason Rocca underwent ankle surgery, Princeton (7-6) shot just 40 percent against Holy Cross (4-7), which has also struggled with injuries. The Crusaders, playing with three freshmen and a walk-on, hit 29 percent from the field.
Princeton expanded a 26-23 lead to 32-23 with 14:12 remaining, and the margin fluctuated between nine and five over the next 11 minutes. With the score 42-35, Walton hit a layup off a Chris Young feed and Gloger made two foul shots to make it 46-35 with 1:23 left. Holy Cross got no closer than seven from that point.
Young finished with nine points, eight rebounds and four assists, while Walton had six assists and two steals. Josh Sankes led Holy Cross with 12 points and 17 rebounds, and Tim Szatko also had 12 points.
The victory gave coach Bill Carmody an 80-20 record, the best start of any Princeton coach in the first 100 games. It also left Princeton with a final record of 1,415-857 for the 1900s.
