Box Score
Rutgers turned 18 offensive rebounds into 17 second chance points and used that advantage to rally for a 46-44 win over Princeton in front of 5,524 at Jadwin Gym.
The victory was the fourth straight and fifth in the last six meetings by the visiting team in this series. Princeton slipped to 3-4, while Rutgers improved to 6-2.
It also marked the second time in two nights that a New Jersey Big East team had beaten an Ivy League team by two points, after Seton Hall's 80-78 win over Penn Wednesday night.
Rutgers took its first lead of the game with 3:06 to play, regained the lead a minute later and barely held off the Tigers. Jeff Greer made one of two foul shots with 4.3 seconds remaining to make it a 46-44 game, and Princeton's Ed Persia missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Trailing 30-23 with 13:15 remaining, Rutgers came back to tie the game at 34-34, 36-36 and 38-38 before taking the lead at 41-40 on Mike Sherrod's jump shot with 3:06 left. Andre Logan then put Princeton back on top with both ends of a one-and-one, but Rashod Kent's dunk with 2:13 left put the Scarlet Knights up for good.
Princeton came into the game second nationally in three-pointers made per game with 10.6, but the Tigers made a season-low four (on 18 attempts). Ahmed El-Nokali led Princeton with 10 points, while Nate Walton had nine points, seven assists (no turnovers) and five rebounds. Logan had eight points and three blocked shots.
Princeton, who led 25-18 at intermission, plays at Texas Christian Monday night (8:00 Eastern time).
