PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Michael Jordan, playing his final home game, had 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field as Pennsylvania completed a perfect Ivy League season with a 73-52 win over Princeton on Tuesday night.
Jordan, who started the 100th game of his career, twice helped Penn (21-7, 14-0 Ivy League) to avert Princeton runs in the second half. First, after the Tigers (19-10, 11-3) went on a 9-0 run to pull to within 34-22 with 15:50 to go in the game, Jordan buried a jumper and a 3-pointer.
Then, after Princeton pulled to within 47-36 with 10:34 left, Jordan made three straight free throws to put the Quakers ahead by 14. The Quakers lead would reach 23 in the final minutes.
Ugonna Onyekwe had 20 points and Geoff Owens added 14 on 7-of-11 shooting from the field for Penn, which was 30-for-53 (57 percent) from the field. Matt Langel, another senior playing his last game at the Palestra, had all 11 of his points in the second half for the Quakers, who have won 16 in a row and 21 straight league contests. It was also Penn coach Fran Dunphy's fourth undefeated league season in the last eight years. Chris Young had 16 points, Nate Walton had 14 points and Spencer Gloger added 11 for Princeton, The Tigers have been swept in the regular season by Penn for the first time since 1995-96. The loss also snapped a nine-game win streak for the Tigers.
The Quakers used runs of 9-2 and 9-0 to open up a 26-13 lead at the break. The Tigers were held scoreless for the last 6:53 of the period and Young had seven of Princeton's points and two of its four field goals as the Tigers made just 4-of--20 (20 percent) from the field in the first half.
Jordan paced Penn with 13 points in the half on 6-of-8 shooting and the Quakers outscored Princeton 20-0 in the paint before halftime.
Pennsylvania opened up the second half by scoring the first eight points and did not allow a Tigers basket until the 17:03 mark, an almost 10 minute scoreless stretch. Penn held a 34-13 advantage with 17:26 to go when Jordan sank a 3-pointer.
