PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) - C.J. Chapman scored 12 of his 15 points in the first half, and Kyle Wente and Nate Walton added 11 points each as Princeton defeated Columbia, 53-36, Saturday night.
It was the 15th straight win for Princeton (6-7, 2-0) over Columbia (4-10, 0-2), as the Tigers held the Lions to their lowest point total since defeating them 56-33 in February 1991. Columbia shot 31 percent and committed 18 turnovers.
Princeton never trailed after taking a 6-0 lead, and Columbia got no closer than three points in the first half. With the score 16-13, Princeton closed the half with a 12-4 run to open a 28-17 halftime lead. Chapman sparked the run with two straight three-pointers that made it 24-13.
Columbia had only six less turnovers (11) than points during the first half, in which neither team had a player with an offensive rebound.
The Lions, who got a game-high 17 points from Craig Austin, continued to struggle offensively in the second half and trailed 40-30 with just under eight minutes remaining. Princeton then scored seven straight for a 47-30 lead with 3:50 left, and Columbia never got closer than 14 the rest of the way.
Chapman shot 5-for-7, all from three-point range, while Walton had seven assists.
Columbia coach Armond Hill dropped to 0-11 against his alma mater, where he also served as an assistant coach.
