NEWARK, DEL. - Junior Rachael Becker (Broomall, Pa.) scored the game-winning goal with 15:38 remaining as the Princeton field hockey team, ranked No. 7, rebounded from Sunday's loss to Penn State by handing the University of Delaware a 3-2 defeat tonight in non-conference action. The Tigers have won eight-straight games against the Blue Hens in a series that began with a 0-0 tie in 1973, and now stands a 9-9-3.
Junior Ilvy Friebe (Bonn, Germany) put the Tigers on the board with an unassisted goal, her 18th tally of the season, at 11:15 of the first half. Friebe's performance through the first 10 games of the season has been nothing short of spectacular as she continues to lead the nation in goals, goals per game, points and points per game. Delaware's Leah Geib tied the score at 1-1 with 5:18 remaining in the half, but the Tigers responded with Friebe's second goal of the night off of an assist from junior co-captain Emily Townsend (Houston, Texas) to give Princeton a 2-1 lead going into the intermission.
The Blue Hens came out in the second half and tied the score again with a goal from Kelly Coyle at 31:58 off of an assist from Kim Wagaman. Princeton had the answer once again as Becker scored what proved to be the game-winner with 15:38 remaining off of an assist from freshman Ashley Sennett (Albion, Maine) to put the Tigers ahead 3-2.
Junior co-captain Kelly Baril (Peabody, Mass.) had seven saves in goal for the Tigers. Delaware goalkeeper Stephanie Judefind finished with six saves.
