Box Score
Tom McLaughlin scored 16 points to lead four freshmen in double figures as Princeton hammered Western Maryland 78-24 Monday night in front of 3,021 at Jadwin Gym.
The 24 points were the fewest ever scored by a team in Jadwin Gym's 33-year history. Princeton has now set Jadwin records this season for the most points ever scored by an individual (40 by Monmouth's Rahsaan Johnson) and fewest points by a team in the building's history.
Princeton was playing its first game in 16 days after first-semester exams. The Tigers improved to 17-0 in games against Division III teams in its return from exams.
The victory improved Princeton to 7-7 as the Tigers reached .500 for the first time this season. Princeton returns to Ivy League action this weekend when Columbia (Friday, CN8, RCN) and Cornell visit Jadwin. The Tigers are the lone unbeaten team in the league at 2-0, but four other teams have one loss each. The Green Terror (6-12), playing without three injured starters, found themselves in a quick 11-4 hole, and a 21-0 Princeton run at that point blew the game wide open.
Princeton coach John Thompson used all of his players in the first half, which ended at 41-7.
McLaughlin, who had been injured most of the year and had not scored previously, scored his 16 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the field. He also added five rebounds, two blocks and three steals.
Judson Wallace, whose previous high game had been 10 against Kansas, had season highs in points (13), rebounds (seven), assists (three), steals (two) and minutes (22). Dominick Martin had 11 points and seven rebounds, while Will Venable added 10 points, three assists and four steals.
Princeton tied the school record with 17 steals. It is the fifth time Princeton has reached that number, most recently against Penn in 1981.
The Tigers shot 31 for 65 from the field, 5 for 23 from three-point range. Princeton outrebounded Western Maryland 52-16.
