Box Score
The first half conjured up images of 1999. The second half did not.
Penn jumped out to a huge lead over Princeton and this time did not suffer an epic collapse as the Quakers led wire-to-wire in a 62-38 win over the Tigers in front of 6,854 at Jadwin Gym.
Penn used a 20-0 first half run to build a 24-3 lead, an advantage that was reminiscent of the 1999 game at the Palestra, when the Quakers led 29-3 in the first half and 40-13 in the second before Princeton rallied for a 50-49 victory.
This time, Penn did not allow the Tigers to get back into the game. It was 37-15 at halftime and no closer than 16 at any point in the second half.
The victory kept Penn alive in the Ivy League race at 4-3, 17-6 overall. Princeton slipped to 10-9 and 5-2 in the league, one game behind first place Yale in the loss column.
Princeton hosts Dartmouth and Harvard this weekend and then Yale and Brown next weekend before finishing its season with games at Cornell, Columbia and Penn.
Penn shot 12 for 22 in the first half, 7 for 15 from three-point range, while the Tigers struggled through a 6 for 24 opening 20 minutes.
It was 4-3 Penn after a Ray Robins three-pointer before the Quakers went on their run.
Koko Archibong scored 13 of his 17 points in the first half, while Ugonna Onyekwe and Andy Toole also had 17 for the Quakers.
Will Venable led Princeton with 11 points while shooting 3 for 5 from three-point range. Kyle Wente had seven rebounds for the Tigers.
