Andre Logan, a junior on the Princeton men's basketball team, was charged with burglary and criminal mischief by Princeton Borough police at roughly 1 a.m. Friday morning, shortly after Game 7 of the American League Championship Series between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.
Logan, a Yankee fan, was attempting to remove a Boston Red Sox flag from an eating club window when the glass broke.
Logan suffered torn tendons in his hand during the incident. The injury is expected to sideline him for up to two months.
"I don't in any way want to trivialize the incident or downplay its importance, but we are prohibited by University rules from commenting on private matters involving students," said Princeton men's basketball coach John Thompson. "While I am obviously concerned about his health, I am also focusing on the bigger picture of what happened and that he did something wrong. This is more important than when he can play basketball again."
Logan, from Brooklyn, N.Y., has missed 41 of the last 44 games after undergoing season-ending knee surgeries the last two seasons. Before his injury, he was a key member of the 2001 Ivy League championship team and the leading scorer on the 2002 team.
"The game had just ended, and I stupidly wanted to take the Red Sox flag out of the window and put it in the room," said Logan. "The breaking of the window was completely accidental. I didn't think it through, and I'm very sorry it happened."
