Tigers Picked To Finish Second In Preseason Men's Basketball Media Poll

The Princeton men's basketball team, which returns three starters from a group that finished 16-11 overall and 10-4 in Ivy League play a year ago, has been chosen to finish tied for second in the league at season's end in the league's preseason media poll released Thursday.
Both the Tigers and Yale finished with 107 points in the preseason poll. Princeton received five of 16 first-place votes, while three voters picked the Bulldogs to earn the league title.
Penn, which enters the 2003-04 season on a 23-game winning streak in Ivy League play, was chosen to repeat as conference champion. The Quakers earned 114 points overall and eight of the 16 first-place votes in the poll.
Either Princeton or Penn has earned at least a share of the Ivy League championship in each of the last 15 seasons. Dating back to 1955-56, when official Ivy League competition began, either Princeton or Penn have won or shared the league championship 42 out of 48 years. The last team other than Princeton or Penn to represent the Ivy League in the NCAA tournament was Cornell in 1988.
Brown and Cornell tied for fourth place in the poll, while Harvard, Dartmouth and Columbia round out the list.
Princeton begins its season Fri., Nov. 21, hosting Colgate at Jadwin Gym at 7:30. The Tigers are beginning the season with consecutive home games for the first time since the 1989-90 season.
