Nov. 4, 2003
Dan Loney has been named the radio play-by-play announcer for the Princeton men's basketball team. Loney replaces Tom McCarthy, who left after eight seasons in Princeton to be the voice of the St. Joe's Hawks.
In addition, Princeton's department of athletics is also entering into a partnership with WPRB 103.3 FM, the University's student-run radio station, to make WPRB the lone radio outlet for Princeton men's basketball this winter.
Loney is a veteran who has handled the television and radio broadcasts of the Trenton Thunder the last three seasons. He has also handled play-by-play duties for Princeton University football and basketball the last two seasons on a part-time basis. His resume includes basketball broadcasting for the University of Charleston, West Virginia State University and St. Joseph's University. Dan is also a reporter for ESPN Radio covering various sporting events in the Delaware Valley.
Loney will team with Jerry Price, now in his 19th year of broadcasting Ivy League athletics and 11th year of doing color for Princeton basketball. Loney and Price will broadcast Tiger road games on WPRB and will broadcast all games on the University's official athletic Website, www.goprincetontigers.com. All internet broadcasts, home and away, are available for free. Home men's basketball games will be broadcast by student broadcasting teams on WPRB under the leadership of sports director Andrew Watkins. In an effort to make the partnership an educational experience as well, the department of athletics will make available broadcasting instruction to those student announcers who wish to participate.
Princeton men's basketball will be televised this winter on a variety of outlets locally, regionally and nationally. CN8 will televise both games against Penn, as well as the home game against Yale (Feb.20) and the away game against Harvard (March 5, tape delay). College Sports Television will also televise the Penn-at-Princeton game (Feb. 10). ESPN2 will show Princeton at Duke (Dec. 17) and Princeton vs. Oklahoma in Olkahoma City (Jan. 3). MSG Network will televise the Princeton-at-Rutgers game (Dec. 13). The Tigers will also make one appearance as part of the Ivy League's package on the Yes network, which will televise the Princeton-at-Dartmouth game (March 6). Princeton's games at Fresno State (Dec. 6) and Minnesota (Jan. 10) will be televised locally in those markets; regional information is not yet available.
Patriot Media (formerly RCN) will televise a schedule of Princeton men's basketball, women's basketball and men's hockey games.
In addition, Princeton will also Webcast several women's basketball games.
