Princeton junior center Judson Wallace, who ranks second in the nation in scoring after two breakout games to begin the year, has been named the Ivy League Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games ending Nov. 30.
Wallace is averaging 29.5 points per game thanks to a career-best 31-point performance in a win over Holy Cross last Friday and a then-career-high 28-point effort in a win over Colgate to begin the season Nov. 21. The Atlanta native is shooting an impressive 21 for 28 (75%) from the field for the season and is also averaging 10 rebounds per game.
Over his last seven games dating back to Feb. 28 of last season, Wallace is averaging 23.4 points per game and shooting better than 60 percent from the field. He is also shooting 51 percent from three-point range in that stretch. In his first 42 games in a Tiger uniform, he averaged 5.5 points per game.
On Friday, against Holy Cross, Wallace hit three three-pointers in a 2:13 span in the second half as part of a 14-3 run that gave the Tigers a nine-point lead late in the game. He shot 11 for 13 overall from the field against the Crusaders, making his first nine shots, while also adding a game-high nine rebounds.
One week earlier, against Colgate, the junior center shot 10 for 15 from the field and added 11 rebounds to record the third "double-double" of his career.
The Tigers, 2-0 for the first time since the 1997-98 season, play at UMBC Tuesday night to begin a five-game road swing. Princeton then plays UC Irvine and host Fresno State at the McCaffrey Classic in Fresno, Calif., Dec. 5 and Dec. 6.
