The Princeton men's basketball team hopes that a little holiday cheer, not to mention a few days off after a 47-44 loss to Lafayette at Jadwin Gym Monday night, will translate into success in its last game before the New Year, Dec. 29 at Loyola.
The Tigers (4-4) will be looking to break a three-game losing streak when they face the winless Greyhounds (0-8) at Reitz Arena in Baltimore (7:30 p.m., WPRB 103.3 FM, GoPrincetonTigers.com) and get back in a shooting groove that characterized the season's first five games. Princeton had four games in its first five where it shot 50% or better from the field, all wins, but the Tigers have struggled overall and from three-point range recently.
Both teams will be coming off long layoffs headed into Monday's game. The Greyhounds last played on Dec. 13, falling to Mount St. Mary's 75-71 on the road. Sophomore guard Charlie Bell is averaging better than 16 points per game for Loyola, which has made 71 three-point shots in eight games (8.8 three-pointers per game).
Princeton will look for a resurgence from junior center Judson Wallace, who scored 16 points and added nine rebounds in the Tigers' last trip to Baltimore, a 68-56 win at UMBC Dec. 2 that improved the Tigers to 3-0. Wallace still ranks second in the Ivy League in scoring (17.3 ppg) and fourth in the conference in rebounding (6.8 rpg). NOTE OF THE DAY
