Princeton, N.J. - Andrea Kilbourne scored two goals and Megan Van Beusekom stopped 16-of-18 shots to give Princeton a 6-2 win over Yale in women's hockey action Friday night. The Tigers, ranked No. 8 in this week's USA Today/American Hockey Poll, improve to 15-6-2 overall and 8-3-0 with the win.
The Tigers went ahead early with Kilbourne finding the net 6:37 into the game. Princeton took 10 shots-on-goal as opposed to Yale's three and led 1-0 at the first intermission. The second period started fast and furious; however, and with only 5:35 gone in the period, three more goals were on the board and Princeton led 3-1.
Freshman Chrissy Norwich scored the first of three Princeton goals in the second period, taking passes from freshmen Sarah Shea and Sarah Butsch for the goal at 4:26. Yale answered with Nicole Symington's goal at 5:04, but the Tigers quickly regrouped and freshman Sarah Greer notched the third Tiger goal of the night at 5:35. Shea would score off a pass from junior Lisa Rasmussen to give Princeton a 4-1 lead after two periods. Princeton would win the goal battle in the third period as well with Kilbourne scoring her second goal of the night at 12:37 and senior Annamarie Holmes sealing the game's scoring with a goal at 13:39.
The Tigers finished the game with 38 shots-on-goal while the defense blocked nine Yale shots. Rasmussen and junior Gretchen Anderson each picked up two assists as the Tigers win their third straight game with six goals scored.
Princeton is in action again tomorrow night when it travels to Yale for a re-match of tonight's contest. Game time at New Haven is 6 p.m.
