PRINCETON, N.J. - Senior Ray Robins earned Princeton's first Ivy League Player of the Week award for men's basketball this season by carrying the Tigers to victories in a pair of must-win games over the weekend. His play sets up a critical upcoming weekend for Princeton in the tight Ivy race.
Robins averaged 19.5 points per game in leading Princeton to a pair of wins at Dartmouth and Harvard. He was 7 for 8, 3 for 3 from beyond the arc, against Dartmouth. In the win over Harvard, he scored twice in the final minute, including an 18-foot jumper that would prove to be the winning basket, in a 67-66 win. He shot 70.8% from the field in the wins and also averaged 3.0 rebounds per game.
Robins will lead Princeton into a critical Ivy League weekend, starting this Friday at Yale (7 p.m., YES Network, WCTC 1450 AM, GoPrincetonTigers.com). Four teams are still alive in the league race - Penn (9-0), Brown (9-1), Princeton (7-2) and Yale (6-4). The Tigers could be anywhere from tied for first to mathematically eliminated after the weekend. While Princeton plays Yale Friday night, a game the Bulldogs need to stay mathematically in the race, Penn will play Brown in Providence with first place on the line. If Brown wins that game, Princeton would be able to win the remainder of its games and be guaranteed at least a share of its third straight Ivy League championship.
