Miller Scores Twice as Field Hockey Downs Columbia 5-1

Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton field hockey team bounced back from a tough overtime loss to Maryland Friday evening with as solid 5-1 defeat of Columbia this afternoon at Class of 52 Stadium. The 10th ranked Tigers were led by Claire Miller's five-point performance as Princeton improved to 5-2; 3-0 Ivy, on the season.
Princeton dominated the Lions in all categories, but was unable to break into the goal column until the 19th minute when Lauren Quinn scored on Columbia goalkeeper Kristina George. Princeton extended the lead to two goals ten minutes later when Shahrzad Joharifard tallied the eventual game-winning goal on a penalty corner. Miller and Cory Picketts assistsed on the goal. Columbia moved back within a goal at 31:35 when Laura Cosan scored on a penalty stroke, but Princeton quickly regained the two goal margin on Miller's first goal of the afternoon, assisted by Joharifard.
Miller made the score 4-1 early in the second half when she walked into the zone and blasted a shot over the head of George. Lizzie Black closed out the Princeton scoring at 60:27 when she scored on a penalty corner, assisted by Hillary Schmidt.
Allison Nemeth allowed one goal and earned the win. Juliana Simon came in with 10 minutes remaining and made one save.
Princeton returns to action next Saturday at home versus Cornell at 1 p.m.
