The Princeton men's basketball team was one of 46 schools to receive at least one vote in the preseason USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll released Thursday.
The Tigers were one of 21 schools in the "others receiving votes" category, joining Florida State and Vanderbilt with one vote.
Kansas was voted No. 1 in the poll, but second-ranked Wake Forest received the most first-place votes (12). Eight different schools got at least one first-place vote, ranging from the top-ranked Jayhawks (8) to 13th-ranked Louisville, which received one first-place vote. North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Oklahoma State and Arizona also got first-place votes.
Syracuse, which Princeton could play Nov. 12 at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, was voted sixth in the poll, while Duke, whom the Tigers face Jan. 5, is ranked No. 12 in the preseason. UTEP, another possible Tiger opponent, was among others receiving votes with two.
Princeton finished 20-8 overall last season and 13-1 in the Ivy League, reaching the NCAA tournament for the 23rd time. The Tigers, who begin their season Nov. 11 at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Syracuse, return four starters and 12 letterwinners from that team.
