Brown may have found success on the power play Friday night, but at even strength it was all Princeton. The No. 9 Bears (3-2-0 overall, 2-1-0 ECACHL) scored two goals with the extra skater, but the No. 8 Tigers (3-1-1, 2-1-0) controlled the damage and skated to a 3-2 win over their conference foe.
The Bears looked poised to mount a late comeback when Amy McLaughlin launched a slapshot from just inside the blueline that wove its way through traffic and beat Roxanne Gaudiel to cut the Tiger lead to 3-2 with 2:14 remaining.
Princeton regrouped and kept most of the action in the final two minutes in the Brown zone, preventing the Bears from pulling their goalie for the extra skater. Brown finally got Stacy Silverman out of the net with 23 seconds remaining and forced Gaudiel to make two more saves to secure the win. Alison Ralph got the scoring started for the Tigers when she slapped a loose puck past Silverman during a flurry in front of the Brown net just 1:35 into the first period. Assists went to April Brown and Chrissie Norwich.
The teams played scoreless until the middle of the second period when Princeton notched a power play goal of its own. Flying in on a rush, Sarah Greer took a shot that was deflected behind the Brown net, right to teammate Sarah Butsch. After Butsch's attempt was saved, Brittany Salmon collected another loose puck and flung it past Silverman for a 2-0 Tiger lead at 9:24 of the middle period.
Brown got a goal back at 16:09 when Christine Holdredge scored the first Bear power play goal of the game. Keaton Zucker and Lindsey Glennon were credited with assists on the play.
Up just one starting the third, the Tigers wasted no time extending the lead. Laura Watt worked ahead of her defender, took a pass from Heater Jackson and shot it past Silverman for the eventual game-winning goal.
Gaudiel made 24 saves for Princeton in the win. Silverman stopped 21 in the loss.
The Tigers next host Harvard on Saturday at 4:00 at Baker Rink.
