OAKLAND - Tickets will go on sale Monday, Nov. 7, for the 2005 Pete Newell Challenge Presented by TicketsNow through all Ticketmaster outlets and at The Arena in Oakland box office.
The ninth-annual college basketball event is set for Wednesday, Dec. 21, at The Arena in Oakland. The Cal Golden Bears are back in the Pete Newell Challenge after a one-year absence, taking on Big East newcomer DePaul in the second game of the doubleheader. In the first game, which begins at 5:30 p.m., Stanford will meet Princeton. This will be a rare West Coast appearance for both DePaul and Princeton, who will be participating in the Pete Newell Challenge for the first time.
Ticket prices range from $15 to $100.
Stanford, with three standout senior starters returning in two-time All-Pac-10 guard Chris Hernandez, high-scoring guard Dan Grunfeld and forward Matt Haryasz, the leading returning rebounder in the Pac-10, is ranked 13th in the preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. The Cardinal (7-0) has never lost in the Pete Newell Challenge. Cal is 4-2 all-time in the event.
