Men's Basketball Visits Colgate, Concludes Patriot League Stretch

The Princeton men's basketball team visits Colgate Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. to begin a day filled with action between the Tigers and the Raiders in both Hamilton, N.Y., and in Princeton.
Princeton and Colgate will also play in men's and women's hockey and women's basketball on Saturday. The men's hockey game is Saturday night in Hamilton, while the women's hockey and women's basketball games are in Princeton.
The Tigers' trip to Hamilton in men's basketball marks the team's first visit to Colgate since the 1981-82 season. The teams did play in Princeton two years ago in the season opener, with the Tigers taking a big lead early in the second half before holding on for a 73-64 victory.
Sophomore Noah Savage has had a strong start to the 2005-06 season for the Tigers, shooting 14-for-22 from the field and 10-for-15 from three-point range and averaging nearly 17 points per game in the first three games. Savage scored all of his game-high 17 points in the second half in Princeton's loss to Lafayette Sunday.
Colgate improved to 3-3 with a double overtime victory against Dartmouth Tuesday night. Junior guard Jon Simon won the game for the Raiders with a short jumper with less than a second remaining on the clock.
The Tigers are concluding a three-game stretch against Patriot League opponents Saturday, having defeated Lehigh Nov. 20 before falling to Lafayette Sunday. Princeton is 10-4 against Patriot opponents in the past six seasons and 4-1 under head coach Joe Scott. Princeton enters Saturday's game having lost just once to Colgate in 17 games since 1949.

Seems Like Yesterday Princeton defeated Colgate 73-64 at Jadwin Gym two seasons ago. Only one Princeton player who scored a basket in that game (Scott Greenman) is still on the roster.
An Orange & Red Day Princeton is also playing Colgate in women's basketball, men's hockey and women's hockey today. The men's hockey game is in Hamilton; the other two are in Princeton.

Taking It Downtown The Tigers have attempted 68 three-point shots and 61 two-point shots in their first three games. Princeton has made nearly as many threes (26) as twos (27) this season.
It's A Game of Runs Lafayette had a 12-0 run against the Tigers Sunday. Princeton had a 15-1 run in the first half against Lehigh Nov. 20. Drexel had a 17-0 run in the first half against the Tigers Nov. 14.

525 & Counting Princeton is one of only three Division I teams (Vanderbilt and UNLV) that has made at least one three-point shot in every game since the rule took effect in 1986-87. The Tigers have now made at least one three-pointer in 525 straight games.

Non-Conference Call Princeton finished 9-5 in non-conference play a year ago. Seven of those 14 games came against teams that reached postseason play.
Coach Speak Joe Scott is in his second season as Princeton's head coach and his 10th season overall as a Princeton coach. He was an assistant for eight seasons before spending four years at Air Force.
Helping Out Princeton has assists on 65% of its baskets overall this season (34 of 53) and had assists on 66% of its baskets a year ago.

Not Standing Pat Patrick Ekeruo scored a career-best nine points in 21 minutes off the bench against Lehigh. Ekeruo entered the game with five points for his career at Princeton.
Steel City Guy Geoff Kestler is the all-time leading single-season scorer at Mt. Lebanon High School and led his team to the Pennsylvania AAAA district title game in 2005.
Alexander Was Great Alex Okafor was an All-Bay Area selection by the San Francisco Chronicle in both his senior and junior years of high school. Okafor has averaged 18 minutes in two games this year.
Sargeant-At-Arms Matt Sargeant had a career-high four assists in 17 minutes at Lehigh. Sargeant started nine games as a freshman and led Princeton in scoring with 14 points against Loyola.
Court Time Max Schafer averaged better than 18 minutes per game last season, the most among Princeton's reserve players. Schafer played 22 minutes off the bench at Lehigh.
Stepping Out Sophomore Kyle Koncz had a career-high five points at Lehigh. 13 of Koncz's 15 career field-goal attempts have come from three-point range.
In the Buff Edwin Buffmire averaged 18 minutes per game in Princeton's last three games of 2004-05. Buffmire entered those games having played 25 minutes the entire season.
