Burlington, Vt. - After 52 minutes of scoreless hockey, senior Katharine Maglione scored at 12:04 of the third period to lift the Princeton women's hockey team to a 2-0 win over Vermont Friday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Junior Roxanne Gaudiel made 13 saves in the win to record her sixth shutout of the season.
Princeton improved to 14-6-5 with the win, while Vermont fell to 5-23-3.
The Tigers dominated play all night but could not crack Vermont goaltender Kami Cote, who recorded 46 saves on the night. The Tigers outshot Vermont 16-3 in the first period, 14-5 in the second and 18-5 in the third.
Maglione finall broke through with just under eight minutes left in regulation with her first goal of the season. With the teams skating four aside, the Tiger worked the puck behind the net to freshman Brittany Salmon. Salmon fed it in front to Maglione, who had skated in from the point. She then beat Cote with a shot on the stick side. Junior Heather Jackson also assisted on the goal.
Princeton added an empty-net goal with 48 seconds remaining when sophomore Liz Keady tallied her 12th of the season from junior Sarah Butsch. Gaudiel posted her sixth shutout of the season and is 13-6-5 overall.
The Tigers gained a pair of points on Yale in the league standings as the Bulldogs dropped a close 3-2 decision at Dartmouth, the team which Princeton faces in its next outing, tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
