Field Hockey Drops Season Opener at American 4-1

Washington, D.C. - American's Camila Infante scored a goal and two assists as the Eagles downed the Princeton field hockey team 4-1 Saturday afternoon. American scored three times in the first 17 minutes of the game and stretched the lead to 4-0 before senior Lauren Ehrlichman notched the Princeton goal at 55:03.
The game was Princeton's first of the season as the Tigers now hold an 0-1 record. American improved to 3-0 with the win. The Tigers return to action on Wednesday night when they host Penn State in their home opener.
American's Irene Schickhardt opened the scoring just 23 seconds into the contest when Infante fed her a pass in front of the net. Infante made the score 2-0 at 11:45 when the Eagles converted a penalty corner attempt. Shannon Goans and Schickhardt assisted on the goal.
Maggie Hall's goal at 16:53 closed out scoring for the first half. She scored from 10 yards out on the right side after a pass from Infante. The scored remained 3-0 in American's favor until Maureen Daniel scored on a penalty corner at 44:51.
Princeton then scored at 55:03 when sophomore Paige Schmidt fed Ehrlichman on the left side of the net.
American outshot the Tigers by a 9-8 margin, while the Tigers held a 7-6 penalty corner edge. Junior goalkeeper Allison Nemeth made four saves in the Princeton goal, while Allison Fayfich turned aside five shots for American.
