Princeton Releases 2005-06 Men's Basketball Schedule
September 06, 2005 | Men's Basketball
Sept. 6, 2005
Appearances in the Preseason NIT in November and the Pete Newell Challenge in December, along with an ESPN2 matchup at Wake Forest and a quality slate of 13 home games, highlight the Princeton men's basketball schedule released today.
Princeton hosts Drexel Nov. 14 in the Preseason NIT first round, with the winner of that game facing the winner of the Missouri-Sam Houston State game two days later in the quarterfinals. The semifinals and finals of the event take place on the days surrounding Thanksgiving, Wed., Nov. 23, and Fri., Nov. 25, at Madison Square Garden.
The Tigers will face two 2005 NCAA tournament teams in a five-day stretch in mid-December. Princeton travels to Wake Forest for a Saturday afternoon game Dec. 17 (ESPN2), then plays Stanford at the Oakland Arena in the first game of the Pete Newell Challenge on Wed., Dec. 21 (CSTV). De Paul and California will play in the event's other game.
At home, Princeton has a solid three-game stretch in early December, hosting Temple, Wyoming and Monmouth within an eight-day span from Dec. 6-14. The Tigers also host Lafayette Nov. 27 and Division III Carnegie Mellon at Jadwin Gym Dec. 28 prior to the New Year.
"As always, we have a challenging non-conference schedule that will test us and prepare us for conference play," says Princeton second-year head coach Joe Scott. "We also have 13 home games this year, which gives our fans quite a few opportunities to see us face some quality competition at Jadwin Gym."
For the first time since the 2001-02 season, the Tigers will open Ivy League play prior to the University's first-semester exam period and intersession. Princeton hosts Columbia and Cornell Jan. 13 and 14 before the break, and the Tigers then visit Davidson on Sun., Jan. 29, before returning to Ivy League play the following weekend at home against Yale and Brown.
The Tigers will play at Penn on Valentine's Day and host the Quakers in the regular-season finale at Jadwin Gym on Tues., March 7. Princeton will play its first four league games at home, but has its next five games after that on the road. Princeton also plays non-conference road games against Patriot League foes Lehigh (Nov. 20) and Colgate (Dec. 3), New Jersey rival Rutgers (Dec. 31) and Rice (Jan. 5) from Conference USA. The matchup with the Mountain Hawks is Princeton's first since the 1996-97 season, while the Tigers will be meeting Rice for just the second time.
In addition to the Wake Forest game, at least one of the Tigers' 14 Ivy League games will be part of the league's YES Network package.
The Tigers' game at Rutgers will also likely be a part of the BIG EAST Conference's television package, and several Preseason NIT games, including the semifinals and finals, will be televised by ESPN or ESPN2. Additional television information is likely to be added at a later date.
