The Princeton men's basketball team will look to do something it has not done this season, win two games in a row, when it hosts Cornell Saturday night at Jadwin Gym to conclude its first full weekend of Ivy League play.
The Tigers (3-10, 1-0 Ivy) defeated Columbia in overtime Friday night thanks some clutch plays down the stretch and excellent free-throw shooting, including two free throws from Edwin Buffmire that tied the game with 0.8 seconds left in regulation. The win ended Princeton's six-game losing skid and was the Tigers' ninth-straight over the Lions.
Cornell (5-10, 0-1 Ivy) fell to 0-9 on the road with an 84-44 loss at The Palestra to Ivy favorite Penn. Jason Hartford had 10 points for the Big Red, which trailed by just nine at halftime but then fell victim to a 19-0 Penn run that opened the second half.
Princeton has won 34 of 37 games against Cornell at Jadwin Gym, but the Big Red's win in Princeton's last season was its first since 1985. Cornell's season sweep of the Tigers a year ago was also its first since that same 1984-85 season.
Kyle Koncz led Princeton with 15 points against Columbia, shooting 4 for 5 from three-point range. Koncz now has at least three three-pointers in five of his last eight games. Buffmire had a career-high 12 points, as did senior guard Scott Greenman.
The Tigers are away from the court thanks to first-semester exams for 15 days after Saturday night's matchup with the Big Red. Princeton next plays Jan. 29 at Davidson.
