Quotes From Princeton Head Coach Joe Scott At 2006 Basketball Media Day
November 06, 2006 | Men's Basketball
Princeton head coach Joe Scott, as well as the Tiger players, met the media Monday afternoon as part of the annual Princeton basketball media day on the court at Jadwin Gym.
The Tigers begin their 2006-07 season Friday against Loyola (Ill.) at the SportsTime Ohio BCA Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Game time is 5:30 p.m. (WBUD-AM 1260, GoPrincetonTigers.com) at Ohio State's Value City Arena. The winner of that game will play the winner of the Ohio State/VMI game Saturday. Princeton will also play on Sunday to conclude the three-day, eight-team tournament.
Selected quotes from today's press conference with Princeton's head coach are available below.

Princeton Basketball Media Day
Nov. 6, 2006
On his impressions of the 2006-07 Tigers so far:
"I think we have a good mix of veteran guys and youth. I think all of our players have gotten better individually and also gotten better at how we want to play. It's a good collection of young guys who are talented players. I think the better our experienced players can play, the easier it's going to be for some of our young guys who are going to play."
"I really like this group of guys. They have a good understanding how we want to play, and they've all continued learning that on a day-by-day basis. I like what I see from this group."
On the potential playing rotation for the Tigers this season:
There are probably about eight or nine guys who are going to play right now. It will be a game by game thing based on things that happen throughout each game. I think we're in a pretty good position to improve every day and game to game so that when we get to January, we're ready for the league season.
On senior captain Justin Conway:
I'm looking for the same things as we saw last year. I expect him to be tough. I expect him to get us some baskets in different ways. He can drive. He's strong and he can be really good at what he does. He may play some other positions this year, but we're still looking for the same things from him. He's a competitor.
It's the same thing with Luke (Owings). Noah (Savage) and our other experienced players. I want them to be good at the things they can do well.
On the end of the 2005-06 season and what it means for this year:
"I think our program grew last February. We started to figure out what it meant to be good on both Friday and Saturday, weekend after weekend. We showed that a little bit. This year we have to be even better and even more consistent."
"This group of guys, with the exception of (Scott) Greenman, is back. They're the ones that did it. They put us in position to make a run for the league heading into the last weekend. They know what the difference is between being successful and not."
On the non-league schedule
"It's 13 difficult games. Hard games against different kind of teams. We start with three games in three days, so it's not going to get get any harder than that."
"The question is whether we can we handle the grind and establish a way of playing so that when we get into the league, we've established something. Are we playing that way right off the bat? That will be a good indicator of where we are. Hopefully we can get better right from the start and game by game.
On freshman guard Marcus Schroeder
"He's going to run the team. He's a different kind of player than Scott Greenman obviously. He doesn't play like a freshman and doesn't look like a freshman. He's very strong and has good stamina. He'll have a good amount of responsibility, and how our more experienced guys play will be important to his development this year."
On the returning players in general:
I think with Luke (Owings), it's to play good post defense. get rebounds for us and make those open shots that we know he can make. With Noah (Savage) it's a similar thing. With Kyle (Koncz), it's continuing to play well defensively and do the things we know he can do. For all of them as a group, it's important they do things well to make the transition for those younger guys much easier."
