Senior guard Scott Greenman, who averaged better than 14 points and three assists in Ivy League play and led the Tigers to a second-place finish in the league standings, was named a unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection today in a vote of the league's eight men's basketball coaches.
Greenman, one of two unaminous choices along with Penn's Ibrahim Jaaber, led Princeton in scoring (10.8 ppg), assists (60) and steals (42) in 2005-06. He also finished in the top 10 in the Ivy League in five statistical categories, including second in free-throw percentage (86.4%) and fourth in steals (42, 1.8 per game).
The 5-9 guard from Linwood, N.J., Princeton's team captain in 2005-06, finished his career tied for eighth all-time at Princeton with 139 three-pointers. After making just six of his first 35 three-point attempts this year (17%), he rebounded by making 29 of his final 56 shots (52%) from behind the arc.
The Tigers also had two players earn honorable mention All-Ivy honors in juniors Justin Conway and Luke Owings.
The 6-4 Conway, one of the better stories in the Ivy League this season, started at center in Princeton's final 12 Ivy League games and averaged nine points, 4.5 rebounds and more than three assists per game in that time. A former walk-on to the Princeton program, he did not play in Princeton's first 14 games this season and had played just two career minutes prior to this January.
Conway, who scored a career-high 21 points and scored the game-winning basket in overtime against Penn this past Tuesday, also made 25 of his 27 free-throw attempts (93%) in his 13 starts this season.
Owings averaged nearly 11 points in Ivy play and shot better than 51% from the field and nearly 40% from three-point range during the Ivy League season. He was also Princeton's leading rebounder in Ivy play (4.9 rpg).
For the season, Owings averaged 8.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He also connected on 30 of his 76 three-point attempts (39.5%) while playing in all but one game and starting 18.
Penn's Jaaber was the unanimous choice for Ivy Player of the Year, while Cornell guard Adam Gore was a unanimous choice for the league's Rookie of the Year award.
Yale's Dominick Martin, Harvard's Matt Stehle and Penn's Mark Zoller joined unanimous selections Greenman and Jaaber on the All-Ivy first team.
