Princeton Drops Second Straight Tight Decision To No. 7 Mercyhurst In Women's Hockey
November 24, 2007 | Women's Ice Hockey
Mercyhurst women's hockey coach Michael Sisti wasn't sure if his big
star deflected the puck or not. He was positive where it ended up,
however, and that was all that mattered.
Meghan Agosta's redirected goal 12 seconds into the third period was the only goal of the day as No. 7 Mercyhurst knocked off Princeton 1-0 at Baker Rink Saturday afternoon. The win completed a weekend sweep for the Lakers (9-2-2), who defeated Princeton 3-1 Friday night behind two goals from Agosta.
The big weekend left Agosta, just a sophomore, with 100 points for her career.
Princeton (4-6-2), playing its final home game for 48 days, threw 15 shots at the net in the third period but could not get one past Laura Hosier, who made 23 saves for the shutout.
The game was scoreless through two periods, but Mercyhurst won the face-off to start the third period and moved the puck into the Princeton end, where Agosta turned the puck past Kristen Young just 12 seconds after play resumed. It would be the only goal of the game.
Princeton had seven power-play chances but came away empty each time, including two 5-on-3 opportunities in the first period.
Princeton is at Colgate and Cornell next weekend. The next home game for the Tigers is January 11 against Yale.
