Novak Scores Two in Women's Hockey Win at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Princeton women's hockey team scored two power-play goals in the first 1:07 of the third period to snap a 1-1 tie and go ahead in an eventual 4-2 win at Colgate on Friday night at Starr Rink. Senior Sonja Novak scored two goals in the win.
Following a scoreless first period, Princeton went ahead at 3:35 of the second period when junior Annie Greenwood scored her fifth goal of the season off a shot from the top of the circle. Sophomore Maddie Endicott assisted on the goal. Colgate evened the score with 3:04 left in the period on a power-play goal from Nicole McDonald to send the teams to the second intermission tied at 1-1.
With 30 seconds left in the second period, penalties got Colgate in trouble as Ali Edell was given a five-minute major for hitting from behind and the Colgate bench was assessed a too many players on the ice penalty.
Princeton began the third period with a two-man advantage and took advantage right away. Senior Marykate Oakley made the score 2-1 when she deflected a shot from Sasha Sherry into the Colgate net, and Novak made it 3-1 moments later when she collected a rebound and scored on the glove side. Novak completed the Princeton scoring at 4:07 from junior Katherine Dineen. Colgate added a goal late.
Junior goaltender Kristen Young made 10 saves for the win, while Colgate's Lisa Plenderleith stopped 25 shots in the loss.
The win moved Princeton to 5-6-2 overall. The Tigers visit Cornell tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
