Greenman Joins Tiger Basketball Tradition Of Overseas Pros
August 21, 2007 | Men's Basketball
Since 1994 the Princeton men's basketball team has won 254 games, an average
of more than 18 wins per season, on the way to six Ivy League championships.
Along the way, the Tiger program has developed a line of all-conference
guards who have played professionally in Europe after graduating from
Princeton.
The latest addition to that distinguished group is Scott Greenman '06,who spent the 2006-07 season competing for B'nei Hasharon in Israel's top division. As a backup point guard, Greenman helped lead the team to a final four finish in Israel's national championship. He saved some of his best play for the end of the season, scoring 22 points against Givat Shmuel in the team's regular season finale.
B'nei Hasharon's roster included Lee Nailon, the former TCU star who played for three NBA teams, as well as three-time All-Big 12 Defensive Team member Cookie Belcher, who played at Nebraska. Over the last decade, the Israeli league, along with those in Italy, Spain and Russia, have served as proving grounds for American and international stars looking to play in the NBA.
Greenman, a unanimous first-team All-Ivy pick as a senior at Princeton, has been offered a contract to return to Israel in 2007-08.
Greenman joins Mike Brennan '94 (Germany), current head coach Sydney Johnson '97 (Italy & Spain), Mitch Henderson '98 (Ireland), current assistant coach Brian Earl '99 (England) and Ed Persia '04 (Italy) as Tiger point guards who have played professional basketball overseas since 1994.
