Judson Wallace '05 Signs With Benetton Treviso
June 02, 2008 | Men's Basketball
Benetton Treviso, the preeminent team in Italy's top basketball division, recently announced the signing of former Princeton star Judson Wallace '05 for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.
Wallace, a 2005 Princeton graduate and three time All-Ivy League honoree, recently completed his first season in Italy averaging 14 points and close to 11 rebounds per game for Pierrel Capo d'Orlando on the island of Sicily. In addition to averaging a "double-double," Wallace shot 37% from the three point line and started 32 of 34 games in leading his team to the playoffs.
Benetton Treviso has set the standard for on-court excellence and front office management in European basketball for the past 20 years. Treviso has won a host of Euroleague championships as well as Italian League and Italian Cup championships, most recently in 2006 and 2005, respectively.
Some of the biggest names in European and NBA basketball have played or coached for Treviso including Toni Kukoc (three-time NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls), Maurice Evans (current swingman for the Detroit Pistons), Mike D'Antoni (recently hired to coach the NBA's New York Knicks) and David Blatt '81 (Coach of the Year in Russia in 2005 and current head coach for the Russian national team).
Wallace is one of two former Princetonians playing in Italy's A1 Division. Mason Rocca '00, who also played for the Italian national team in the 2006 World Championships, led his team, Eldo Napoli, in rebounding for the second year in a row in 2007-08.
The current Princeton coaching staff boasts three former professional basketball players including head coach Sydney Johnson '97, who played five years in Italy and two seasons in Spain.
