Field Hockey Blanks Dartmouth 4-0 in Ivy Opener

PRINCETON -- The 15th-ranked Princeton field hockey team picked up its first Ivy League win of the season with a 4-0 shutout against Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at Class of '52 Stadium. The Tigers improved to 4-1 overall and is now 1-0 in league play.
The Tigers dominated all facets of the game and scored early to take a 1-0 lead when senior Kraftin Schreyer got her second goal of the season off of a corner from freshman Katie Reinprecht. That was Princeton's lone goal in the first half despite 18 shots fired at the Dartmouth cage.
Princeton broke the game open in the second half with three goals. Freshman Kathleen Sharkey made the score 2-0 four minutes into the half when she redirected a pass along the goal line from Reinprecht.
The Tigers added goals from freshman Alyssa Pyros, the first of her collegiate career, and junior Christina Bortz, her fourth of the season, in the win. Pyros' goal came as she directed a pass from senior Kristin Schwab into the far top corner f the goal and Bortz's goal came following a good pass by freshman Allison Behringer, which sent Bortz in alone on the Dartmouth goalkeeper.
Princeton outshot Dartmouth 33-1 and has 12 penalty corners to none for Dartmouth. Sophomore Jennifer King earned the win in goal for Princeton, while Dartmouth's Meagan Vakiener made 18 saves in a losing effort.
Princeton is now 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Ivy League. The Tigers return to action on Wednesday night at 12th-ranked Penn State.
