Field Hockey Picks Up Big Win at #13 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The 15th-ranked Princeton field hockey team picked up a rare 3-2 win at 13th-ranked Penn State Wednesday night. The Tigers improved to 5-1 overall with the win and picked up their first win in 11 tries at University Park.
Penn State opened the scoring in the 13th minute of the game when Daneen Zug converted on a penalty corner. The lead lasted eight minutes before Princeton evened the score at 1-1 on senior Katie Kinzer's first goal of the season, which came off an assist from senior Holly McGarvie.
Kinzer's goal opened a 2:32 stretch of game time in which the Tigers scored three times to pull ahead for good in the contest. Freshman Katie Reinprecht gave Princeton a 2-1 lead with an unassisted goal 26 seconds after Kinzer's goal. Reinprecht's goal was her fourth of the season.
Freshman Kathleen Sharkey then made the score 3-1 just over two minutes later with her fifth goal of the season with an assist from Reinprecht. Reinprecht's goal and assist lifted her to the team lead in points with 12. Sharkey is one behind with 11 points and leads the team with five goals as the two freshmen are tops among Princeton scorers.
Penn State cut the Princeton lead by one when Penn State converted on a penalty corner. Zug scored her second goal of the game with assists from Jen Long and Allison Scola.
Princeton outshot Penn State 20-13, but was outcornered 12-7. Princeton junior goalkeeper Cynthia Wray made five saves to record the win, while Jen Beaumont stopped 12 shots in the loss for Penn State.
Princeton improved to 5-1 overall with the win and picked up its first win of the season against a ranked opponent. The Tigers' win was Princeton' first triumph at Penn State in 11 tries and just the fourth Princeton win in 26 games against the Nittany Lions.
