Bartholomew's First Career Goal Saves Tie for Women's Soccer

NEW YORK -- The trend of one-goal games ended Sunday for the Princeton women's soccer team, but that doesn't mean things got any easier for the Tigers.
A Kalie Bartholomew long-range attempt kept the Tigers from falling to St. John's, instead saving the team's first tie of the season at 1-1. All three of Princeton's previous games had been decided by one goal, and Sunday's was the second straight to go into overtime.
With two minutes left, Bartholomew fired from 35 yards out and arced the ball over St. John's goalkeeper Kristin Russell, who tried to get a hand on it but couldn't knock it away. The equalizer made Bartholomew the first Tiger freshman to score a goal this season.
The Red Storm goal came in the 50th minute when Jen Leverton passed a shot into the 18-yard box for Kelly McConnell, who beat Princeton goalkeeper Alyssa Pont's dive and tucked the ball inside the left post.
The shot totals were about as close as the game, Princeton winning that statistic 16-15 while forcing a pair of St. John's goalkeepers to make six saves. Princeton's Pont had four. The Tigers had nine corner kicks to two for St. John's, but none for either team resulted in a goal.
Princeton's final non-league game will come Tuesday at Colgate before the Tigers head to Yale for a Saturday evening Ivy opener.
