Kloss and Billings Earn First-Place Victories for Women's Track and Field

NEW YORK (1/10/09) ? Senior Jessica Kloss and sophomore Thanithia Billings recorded personal victories as the Princeton women's track and field team competed at the Metropolitan Coaches Invitational on Friday, Jan. 9 at The Armory in New York City.
Kloss took first in the pole vault, with a vault of 3.60 meters for first place. In the same event, freshman Bianca Reo and Lydia Arias finished third and fourth, respectively. Billings captured first place in the shot put, throwing 13.39 meters.
Over 17 NCAA teams competed in the invitational, as well as a handful of community colleges and adult club teams.
Also during the field events, two other Tigers medaled. Freshman Alyssa Pehmoeller finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 13.52 meters, and junior Aundeah Kearney took third in the long jump at 5.41 meters.
In the high jump, juniors Liz Stevens and KC Wade jumped 1.55 meters and in the triple jump sophomore Tiffany Liu found her way to 11.14 meters for seventh place.
Princeton was led by freshmen in the sprints. In the 60 meter dash, freshman Eileen Moran qualified for the finals with a time of 8.03 in the preliminaries, and shaved 0.05 seconds off her time in the finals, clocking in at 7.98 for fifth place.
Three freshmen also competed in the 400 meter dash. Coming out on top was Danielle Glaeser who finished in fourth place with a time of 58.43. Sarah Houtmann and Michelle Yousefian finished 14th and 15th, respectively, with 1:00.37 and 1:00.55 each. Junior Rachel Rosenthal also competed, coming in 24th place with a time of 1:03.89.
The Tigers earned a second-place finish in the 1600 sprint relay. The team of Moran, Glaeser, Houtmnann and senior Agatha Offorjebe came in at 4:11.77 behind a crew from Nike Central Park Track Club.
Sophomore Lauren Barber finished fourth in the preliminaries of the 60 meter hurdles, with a time of 9.33 to qualify for the finals. She was .06 seconds faster in the finals but claimed fifth place with a 9.27. Freshman Melissa Tassone also qualified and finished with a time of 10.02 for 13th place.
In the middle distance events, Princeton competed in the 600 meter and one mile. In the 600 meters, senior Melissa Swigert clocked in at 1:36.92 and sophomore Libby Bliss right behind at 1:37.22 for fifth and sixth places.
Sophomore Brooke Russell finished the mile in 5:13.69 to take eighth place.
Princeton will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 23 when it returns to The Armory for Albany's Great Dane Classic.
