Game Notes
Sub-50: Princeton scored fewer than 50 points against Yale and Brown in back-to-back games for the first time since Dec. 5-12, 2007 at Evansville and Penn State. The last time the Tigers went sub-50 in back-to-back Ivy games was Feb. 23-24, 2007 at Dartmouth and Harvard.
One week: Princeton allowed the lowest total it has given up to a pair of Ivy opponents in a weekend since 1984 against Cornell and Columbia. A week later, the Tigers' 91 total points were its fewest in an Ivy weekend in two years.
Halfway home: The Penn game will mark the halfway point of Princeton's Ivy season. The Tigers' 4-2 record is the team's best through six Ivy games since 2006.
Gotta stop 'em: Yale had 14 assists, which then matched a season-high for a Princeton opponent, a night before Brown re-set that mark with 15. The previous two-game high was 26 by Manhattan (14) and Central Connecticut State (12) in December.
Home sweet home?: Penn has won six of the last seven in Jadwin Gym since 2002. Princeton's only win during the stretch came in 2006 in overtime on ESPNU,
We're on TV: Princeton will be on television across the country for the third time in 2009 against Penn. The Tigers faced UNC Greensboro on Jan. 3 on ESPNU, which started a seven-game winning streak. The next TV game, last Friday against Yale on YES, ended the winning streak.
Showing improvement: Princeton has already surpassed its overall and Ivy win totals from last season. The Tigers were 6-23 overall and 3-11 in the Ivy in 2007-08.
More accurate: Princeton's field goal percentage was below 36% in back-to-back games for the first time this season at Yale and Brown.
Three's our thing: Princeton's 29.4% three-point percentage at Brown was its lowest since the first game of the seven-game winning streak against UNC Greensboro.
Take ?em, they're free: At Yale and Brown, Princeton was below 70% from the free-throw line in back-to-back games for the first time since Dec. 14-20.
Staying power: 95.8% of Princeton's points this season have been scored by non-seniors.
Keep that ball: Princeton's 40 turnovers in the last three games are the most for the Tigers in a three-game stretch since Dec. 2-10.
Last time vs Penn: Princeton committed 20 turnovers the last time the two teams met Mar. 11, 2008 in Jadwin Gym. That led to 14 more field goal attempts for the Quakers in a 60-47 win.
What Princeton has back: Princeton returns 27 of the 47 points the Tigers scored in the last meeting with 13 from Zach Finley, 10 from Jason Briggs and four from Kareem Maddox.
What Penn has back: The Quakers return 50 of the 60 points from last year's season-ending win over Princeton with only Brian Grandieri's 10 points not back. Jack Eggleston led all scorers with 15 points and Tyler Bernardini added 11.
Keep 'em down: For the first time this season, Princeton opponents shot better than 40% in back-to-back games. Yale shot 45.1% and Brown 48.7%.
Brown threes: Brown tied a Princeton opponent season-high with eight three-pointers and made 42.1% of its attempts, the most accurate rate for a Tiger foe since Central Connecticut State on Dec. 20 (50%).
Blocked: Yale and Brown combined for 11 blocked shots (six for Yale, five for Brown), the most in two games for a Princeton opponent since 14 from Dec. 6-10.
Sydney Johnson vs. Penn: Sydney Johnson has a 3-8 record against Penn between his time as a player and head coach. Penn won the first six meetings his freshman through junior years before the Tigers won the 1996 Ivy playoff and both times his senior year. Penn won both times during his rookie season as head coach.
Johnson vs. Miller: Sydney Johnson and Glen Miller have only coached against each other last season, giving Miller a 2-0 advantage.
Busy time: Princeton is in the middle of five games in nine days from Feb. 13-21.
Glen Miller vs. Princeton: Princeton has a 10-9 record all-time against Penn head coach Glen Miller. The Tigers lost during the 1987-88 season when Miller was an assistant at UConn, went 10-4 against Miller when he skippered Brown, and are 0-4 against Miller since he has been at Penn.
Comparing accuracy: The last time Princeton was outshot from the field in back-to-back games was in the last two games of the six-game losing streak in November and December.
Out-threed: When Brown hit eight three-pointers to Princeton's five last Saturday, it was only the second time this season a Princeton opponent has made more three-pointers than the Tigers.
We like free too: Princeton's opponent has hit more free throws than the Tigers in 16 of 19 games this season.
We like free too, part two: Princeton has had a better field goal percentage than its opponent in 12 of 19 games this season.
Out-boarded: Princeton has been outrebounded in seven of the last eight games, counting five straight games during the seven-game winning streak.
More help: When Yale and Brown each had more assists than the Tigers last weekend, it was only the second time this season that opponents had more assists than the Tigers in back-to-back games (Manhattan and Cent. Conn. St., Dec. 14-20).
Whistles: Princeton has been whistled for more fouls than its opponent in 16 of 19 games this season.
We're home: Princeton's five-game homestand that starts against Penn is its longest since February 2002.
