Game Notes
Man of the hour: Princeton head coach Pete Carril will have the main court at Jadwin Gym named in his honor, making Princeton's home court just the second in the Ivy League to be named. The other is Howard Williams Court at Brown, named for a 1917 graduate of the university.
More Carril: In his 29 seasons at Princeton (1967-96), Pete Carril coached Princeton to 514 wins, 13 Ivy titles, 11 NCAA Tournament berths, two NIT berths and the 1975 NIT title, still the only postseason championship an Ivy League school has won. Princeton's 1996 win over UCLA is the last time a lower-seeded Ivy League team won an NCAA Tournament game.
Quick getaway: Jason Briggs had three steals in just six minutes of playing time Friday against Harvard.
Sydney Johnson vs. Dartmouth: Sydney Johnson is 2-1 against Dartmouth as a head coach, splitting last season's meetings and winning the first go-round this season. During his playing days, Sydney Johnson
helped Princeton win 7 of 8 games against Dartmouth with the one loss
coming on the road his sophomore season.
Johnson vs. Dunn: The three meetings during Sydney Johnson's head coaching career are the only meetings he has had with Terry Dunn during his playing or coaching career.
Best since Cornell: Princeton's .462 shooting percentage against Harvard was its highest since the 20-point win over Cornell Feb. 6.
Hit those free throws: Princeton's .882 free-throw percentage was its highest in any game this season in which it has hit at least 10 free throws.
Block party: Princeton's 13 blocks in the last two games are its highest in any two-game stretch this season.
Sub-60: Princeton has won its last six games in which it has held its opponent to fewer than 60 points.
Now boarding: Princeton has won the rebounding battle only once in the last 10 games. Even so, the Tigers are 7-3 in their last 10.
His Comfort zone: Freshman John Comfort has 10 of his 13 field goals this season from beyond the arc and has dialed long distance on 29 of his 41 field-goal attempts. It is the highest proportion of threes to field-goal attempts (70.7%) on the team, ahead of Nick Lake (66.7%).
Dialed-in Douglas: Freshman Douglas Davis was 5 of 7 (.714) from the field against Harvard, his best shooting percentage since the South Carolina game Dec. 2 (6 for 8, .750).
A big help: Marcus Schroeder's 11 assists in the last two games are his most in back-to-back games this season.
Fast-forward through the Ivy: Princeton will play its final six Ivy games over an 18-day span from Feb. 21-Mar. 10.
Last time vs. Dartmouth:
An 11-2 run over five minutes late in the second half opened an 11
point lead for the Tigers in a 59-54 win at Dartmouth Jan. 30.
Princeton had four players in double-figures, led by Pawel Buczak with
14 points, to overcome 24 from Alex Barnett.
Not much Green in Princeton: Dartmouth also has had little success in Jadwin Gym, winning only twice in 39 meetings. The Big Green won in 1987, after Princeton won the first 17 contests, and in 2007.
Then again...: Dartmouth can't sweep Princeton this season, but the Big Green swept the season series from Penn for the first time since 1959 with the win Friday.
Turnovers are for bakeries: Princeton had 11 first-half turnovers against Harvard Friday and carried a four-point deficit despite shooting 52.6% before the break. In the second half, the Tigers had just four turnovers and came away with a three-point win.
Free throws:
Princeton has taken more free-throw attempts than its opponent only
three times this season. Princeton's
opponents have shot 152 more free throws this season than have the
Tigers, an average of seven per game.
Whistles: Princeton
has been called for more fouls than its opponent in all but three games
this season. In each of those three games, the opponent was called for
only one more foul than the Tigers.
Staying power:
96% of Princeton's points this season overall, as well as 99% of points
in the Ivy League season, have been scored by non-seniors.
Hey Ma: Zane Ma, recovering from a knee injury, suited up for the first time this season vs. Penn.
