Game Notes
A look at the Ivy: Five teams are still mathematically alive in the Ivy League race. Cornell (9-2) has a two-game lead over Yale (7-4), a 2 1/2-game lead over Princeton (6-4) and a three-game lead over Columbia and Dartmouth (6-5). Cornell can clinch the Ivy League with a win over Harvard Saturday and a win over Penn next Friday.
In the right direction: A Princeton win Saturday would give the Tigers 12 overall wins, double the amount they had last year. The six Ivy wins Princeton already has are one more than the Tigers had in 2007 and 2008 combined. Princeton won six overall games in 2008-09, 11 in 2006-07, 12 in 2005-06 and 15 in 2004-05.
'Dogs' house: Yale has won the last
two games in Jadwin Gym, ending a 13-season Princeton win streak on
campus. Yale won in 1986, 1987, 1992 and 1993 in addition to the last
two seasons since Jadwin opened in 1969.
Tigers in the Ivy rankings: Pawel Buczak is second in the Ivy in overall games in field-goal percentage at .567 (Matt Mullery, Brown, .577). Buczak leads the league in the category in conference games (.607). Dan Mavraides leads the league in three-point field-goal percentage in overall games at .441. As a team, Princeton leads the league in overall games in scoring defense (57.3 ppg), field-goal percentage defense (.392) and three-point field-goal percentage defense (.281).
Last time vs. Yale:
The Bulldogs hassled Princeton on the boards Feb. 13 at Yale in a 60-48
Bulldog win. Yale outrebounded Princeton 43-23 in what was the largest
rebounding deficit for the Tigers since December 2005. Eleven Bulldogs
got rebounds, but Ross Morin was the main culprit with 10 boards to go
with his 10 points. Alex Zampier led all scorers with 13 points while
Douglas Davis was the high Tiger with 11.
Johnson vs. Yale:
Princeton head coach Sydney Johnson has an 8-3 record vs.
Yale including 0-3 as a head coach.
Johnson vs. Jones:
Sydney Johnson is 4-3 against James Jones all-time.
Johnson's teams won all four meetings his junior and senior seasons
with Jones as a Yale assistant, and Jones won both meetings last season
with the two as head coaches.
40%: Princeton shot an even .400 Friday against Brown, the 15th time this season the Tigers have hit that mark.
Hot from three: Princeton has shot at least 40% from three-point range in each of the last four games, the longest such stretch of the season.
Take 'em, they're free: Princeton has shot at least 80% from the free-throw line in three straight games for the first time this season.
Good help: Princeton's 12 assists against Yale made it the sixth straight game in which Princeton has had at least 10 assists, the longest such stretch this season.
Tough from three: Brown's 22 three-point attempts were a season-high for a Princeton opponent (the Bears had matched a season-high with eight threes in the win in Providence), but Brown's .136 shooting percentage from distance was only the second-lowest of the season. St. Bonaventure and Cornell each shot .118 from three against Princeton.
Outboarded: Princeton has been outrebounded in 11 out of the last 12 games. Yale outrebounded Princeton by 20 in New Haven, the most lopsided difference in three years.
Shuffling the order: Princeton used just two lineups over the first 19 games. In the last three games, Princeton has used three distinct lineups.
Davis subs in: Rookie Douglas Davis did not start Friday for the first time in his young career, but he still scored 16 points in 25 minutes for his 16th double-digit game of the season.
More Davis: Douglas Davis has hit 17 of 24 field goals (.708) in the last three games.
Helper: Marcus Schroeder had seven assists against Yale, tying a career-best. He had seven assists twice as a freshman, most recently in the season finale against Penn.
Back-to-back Buczak: With 11 points in each of the last two games, Pawel Buczak has scored double-digits in back-to-back games for the first time in his career.
Our seniors: Jason Briggs and Mike Strittmatter will be honored prior to the Yale game Saturday, their final contest on Carril Court. Strittmatter has played in 65 career games entering the weekend, playing in 60 of them as a reserve. Briggs has played in 22 games this season, equaling the number he played in his first three seasons. He also has more assists (19) and steals (11) this season than he had in his first three seasons combined (18 assists, eight steals).
