Game Notes
Youth will lead us: Douglas Davis is all set to become the first freshman in program history to lead the team in scoring at season's end. His 12.4 points per game leads the team by more than two PPG.
Top freshman seasons: Douglas Davis' 323 points this season ranks him fourth on the single-season scoring list for freshmen. Chris Young leads with 387 in 1999, followed by Spencer Gloger with 336 in 2000 and Kit Mueller with 329 in 1988.
Tough place to play: Princeton will be looking for its first win in The Palestra since 2004. It is one of three Ivy League buildings in which Princeton's seniors have not won, including Columbia's Levien Gym and Brown's Pizzitola Center.
Progress: Princeton is seeking its first winning Ivy season since 2006, when the Tigers went 12-15 overall and 10-4 in the Ivy. A 13th overalll win would be Princeton's most since 2005, when the Tigers went 15-13. Princeton has already won more Ivy games this season than in the past two seasons, seven to five.
Splitsville: Of the six Ivy series Princeton has completed this season, the last five have split. The Tigers swept Harvard and have yet to be swept this season, though Penn would accomplish that with a win Tuesday. Penn won the first meeting 62-55 in overtime.
Tigers in the Ivy rankings: As a team in overall games, Princeton ranks first in the Ivy League in scoring defense (57.3 ppg allowed), free-throw percentage (.744), field goal percentage defense (.400), three-point field goal percentage defense (.295) and rebounding defense (31.8 rpg allowed).
More Tigers in the Ivy rankings: In league games, Princeton leads the Ivy in scoring defense (55.8) an free-throw percentage (.762).
Last time vs. Penn: Turnovers were the key stat in last month's meeting with Princeton committing 20 and Penn 12. The Quakers also out-rebounded Princeton 43-38, numbers that added up to a 62-55 OT win for Penn.
Sydney Johnson vs. Penn: Sydney Johnson has a 3-9 record against Penn
between his time as a player and head coach. Penn won the first six
meetings his freshman through junior years before the Tigers won the
1996 Ivy playoff and both times his senior year. Penn has won all three meetings since Johnson became a head coach.
Johnson vs. Miller:
Sydney Johnson and Glen Miller have only coached against each other this season and last, giving Miller a 3-0 advantage.
Off the mark: Princeton's 35.4% shooting from the field at Cornell Saturday broke a five-match streak of Princeton shooting at least 40%.
Off the mark II: Princeton shot below 30% from beyond the arc in both games last weekend, making it the first time all season Princeton has come in below 30% from long distance in back-to-back games.
More help: Princeton had nine assists in each of the last two games, just the second time all season and first since Dec. 10-14 that the Tigers have had fewer than 10 assists in back-to-back games.
Theft-proof: Princeton had no steals in its game against Cornell, the first time all season the Tigers didn't record a steal.
De-fense: Cornell's 51.1% shooting from the field was the most for a Princeton opponent since Jan. 31 against Harvard (58.5%).
Taking turns: Princeton's opponents last weekend, Columbia and Cornell, had eight and six turnovers respectively, making it the first time this season Princeton's opponents have had fewer than 10 turnovers in back-to-back games.
Six straight for Douglas: Douglas Davis has scored 10+ points in six straight games, his longest streak of his season and career.
Points for Patrick: Patrick Saunders scored a career-high 13 points at Cornell.
Shuffling the lineup: Princeton hasn't used the same starting five in back-to-back games since Feb. 17-20 against Penn and Harvard.
