Men's XC Takes Fifth at Pre-Nats; Cabral Sixth Overall

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (10/16/10) - Junior Donn Cabral finished sixth overall to lead the No. 12-ranked Princeton men's cross country team to a fifth place finish at Pre-National on the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind., on Oct. 16.
Nine of the 35 teams running in the blue race are nationally ranked, including the No. 12-ranked Tigers. Stanford the No. 1 ranked team in the country won the race with a low score of 43 points as the Cardinals went 1-2-3. No. 18 Iona was second, No. 15 Florida State was third and No. 5 Northern Arizona was fourth.
Princeton finished ahead of No. 27 William & Mary (sixth), No. 30 Florida (ninth), No. 26 UCLA (11th) and No. 20 Michigan State (18th). The only other Ivy League team running in the race was Dartmouth. The Big Green finished 12th overall.
Cabral finished the 8k sixth overall with a time of 23:36.1. Junior Brian Leung ran in at 24:01.2 to take 16th overall and senior Mark Amirault clocked in at 24:15.3 for 32nd. Junior Joe Stilin was the fourth Tiger across the line at 24:36.9. The final Princeton scorer, senior Kyle Soloff ran in at 24:44.0. Freshmen Jonathan Vitez and Michael Franklin finished at 25:01.3 and 25:38.7.
Princeton will contend for the Ivy League Heptagonal on Friday, Oct. 30. The Tigers are seeking their 15th title after falling one point shy of the title last season, 61-60 to Columbia. The Tigers won Heps three straight years in 2006, 07 and 08.
