Maddox Earns Ivy, Princeton Athlete of the Week Honors
December 13, 2010 | Men's Basketball
Kareem Maddox is the Ivy League Co-Player of the Week for men's basketball, the Ivy office announced Monday, after the senior forward had back-to-back double-digit scoring games that led to wins over Monmouth and Tulsa.
Maddox is the second straight Tiger to be honored after Ian Hummer won the award a week ago. Maddox will share this week's honor with Columbia's Noruwa Agho.
In addition, Maddox has been named the GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week, presented by Coach USA.
Against Monmouth, Maddox was one of five players in double figures, scoring 13 points and grabbing nine rebounds as the Tigers pulled out a 64-61 win to start a six-game trip away from Jadwin Gym. Four days later at Tulsa, Maddox bettered his career-high scoring total by a point, dropping in 31 on 10 of 13 shooting from the field and 10 of 12 from the free-throw line to help Princeton to an 82-78 double-overtime victory. Maddox's previous career best came just two weeks earlier with a 30-point game against Siena.
Maddox, who earned the Ivy honor for the first time in his career, is just the eighth player in program history to have two 30-point games in a season. If Maddox pulls the feat again, he would be one of just four players, including Bill Bradley '65, Geoff Petrie '70 and Brian Taylor '84, to have three such games in one season.
After averaging 5.8 points per game through the first five games of the season, Maddox has averaged 18 points over the last five games.
The Tigers have won five straight games and will make the short trip to Staten Island, N.Y., to face Wagner in a Friday night contest.
