-With the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament in the books, both Princeton and IUPUI faced teams this season that advanced in the Big Dance. Saint Louis's schedule had a Sweet 16 team in Xavier and three first-round teams in Temple, Richmond and Notre Dame. Princeton faced Sweet 16 Cornell twice and second-rounder Cal.
-Princeton more than held its own against Cornell this season, losing by three points each time and holding the Red to 40 percent shooting overall and 22.2 percent from three-point range. Cornell averaged just 6.5 assists in the two games against Princeton and just 49.0 points per game. In its two NCAA games, Cornell shot 58.8 percent overall and 44.7 percent from beyond the arc, averaged 12 assists and scored 82.5 points per game.
-Saint Louis will be the fourth Atlantic 10 team Princeton has faced this season. The Billikens have not faced an Ivy school since Dec. 2, 1995, a 58-51 win over Penn in St. Louis.
-Both Saint Louis and Princeton had the same results against their common opponents, all in-league for the Billikens. Saint Louis beat Duquesne (twice) and Saint Joseph's and lost to George Washington, as did Princeton.
-Princeton will be the second team Saint Louis faces this season that is coached by a Princeton alum. The Billikens split two meetings with Richmond, coached by Chris Mooney '94, a one-season teammate of Sydney Johnson.
-Last time out, in a 74-68 double-OT Princeton win at IUPUI Monday, the Tigers twice came back from double-digit deficits, once in each half, and balanced big statistical shortcomings with big statistical advantages. Though Princeton was 6 of 20 (.300) from beyond the arc, 10 of 21 (.476) from the free-throw line and was -15 on the glass (48-33), the Tigers shot 48.3 percent from the field (29 of 60) and had nine turnovers to 18 for IUPUI.
-Princeton's -15 rebounding margin against IUPUI was its lowest since a season-low -17 in each of back-to-back games against George Washington and California.
-Princeton is 8-7 this season when scoring below 60 points, while Saint Louis is 2-7 when not reaching 60.
-Princeton allowed IUPUI just four assists, matching a season-low allowed at Brown and against Cornell.
-In the CBI, Princeton has shot 47.7 percent from the field (53 of 111). Princeton has outshot its opponents from the field in seven straight games, taking a 45.8 percent to 36.7 percent edge during that span.
-Princeton is in the postseason for the 29th time in its history, all in the last 59 seasons. While 2010 marks the program's first College Basketball Invitational bid in the three-year history of the event, the Tigers have been to 23 NCAA Tournaments and five National Invitational Tournaments.
-Both Princeton and Saint Louis are in the postseason for the first time since 2004, when SLU made the NIT and Princeton made the NCAA. Both teams are also under coaches in their third seasons at the school.
-Princeton's 22 victories are its most since 1999, when it was also 22-8. Another Princeton win would be its most since 1998, when it finished 27-2 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament as a No. 5 seed.
-When the Tigers tip-off at Saint Louis, the team play a 31st game for the first time in program history. Princeton played 30 games in 1975 (NIT champion), 1980 (Ivy playoff), 1999 (NIT quarterfinal) and 2000 (NIT first round).
-Princeton will be facing Saint Louis for the first time since Dec. 17, 1970, an 82-52 loss in Missouri. Six years prior to the day, Princeton lost at Saint Louis 90-71. Wednesday's game will be Princeton's first visit to Missouri since the 1970 game against the Billikens.
-Princeton has only faced one other Missouri-based team, going 2-0 against the University of Missouri with neutral-site wins in 1957 and 1999. Outside of the two games against SLU, Princeton has visited Missouri only once, for the 1957 game against Missouri in Kansas City.
-Wednesday's game will be the first time Sydney Johnson has coached or played against a Missouri-based team.
-Both head coaches in Wednesday's game have coached in a Final Four, with Sydney Johnson as an assistant coach at Georgetown in 2007 and Rick Majerus as an assistant at Marquette in 1974 and 1977 and as head coach at Utah in 1998.
-Whether as a player, assistant coach or head coach, Sydney Johnson is 10-5 in the postseason. As a player, he was 1-2 in the postseason with two NCAA Tournament appearances including the 1996 win over UCLA. As an assistant coach at Georgetown, Johnson made the postseason all three seasons, with an NIT bid and two NCAA bids, including the 2007 Final Four run. This is Johnson's first postseason as a head coach.
-Princeton's two straight second-place Ivy finishes are the first back-to-back seasons it has finished at least second in the Ivy since it won the league outright in 2001 and finished in a three-way tie atop the league in 2002.
-Princeton's men's and women's teams set combined records for the school in overall wins and Ivy League wins in a season in 2009-10, winning 48 games overall and 25 in the Ivy League. It is just the second time in school history, after 1996, that both the Princeton men's and women's teams won at least 20 games in the same season. Princeton's women's team made their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance Saturday against St. John's.
-The 16-win improvement from the 2007-08 to 2009-10 seasons is Princeton's largest in two or fewer years all-time. It surpassed the 1918-19 and 1919-20 seasons that saw Princeton's win total grow by 11.
-Through games of Mar. 21, the last NCAA compilation date, Princeton remained ranked No. 1 in the nation in scoring defense at 52.2 points per game (now 52.8). Northern Iowa, at 55.0 points per game, was second. Princeton's next-highest ranking was in field goal percentage defense, where the Tigers' .395 average (now .394) ranked 19th.
-The 35-second shot-clock era record (since 1993) for scoring defense is 50.9 ppg allowed, held by the 2004 Air Force team coached by Princeton alum Joe Scott '87. The shot-clock era record (since 1985, at 45 seconds) belongs to the 1992 Princeton team that held opponents to 48.2 ppg.
-Over the last seven games, Princeton's opponents have shot 36.7 percent from the field.
-Through games of Mar. 21, both Princeton and Saint Louis were in the top 10 in the nation in scoring defense, both below 60 points per game. Both teams were also in the top 30 in field goal percentage defense, each allowing lower than 40 percent from the field.
-Though it didn't show it against IUPUI, going 10 for 21 from the line, as of Mar. 21 Princeton was in the top 15 percent of Division I in free-throw percentage at 72.7 percent (now 71.6). Saint Louis was among the bottom 10 at 61.4 percent.
-Princeton and Saint Louis also contrast on the glass. The Billikens are getting outrebounded by 2.3 rebounds per game, while the Tigers, after a -15 night at IUPUI, still have a 1.3-rebound advantage over its foes.
-Both teams' strong defense also shows up, though in different ways, in comparisons of steals and blocks. The Billikens were 34th in the nation in blocked shots as of Mar. 21 at 4.9 per game, while the Tigers were 183rd at 3.1 (now 3.3). Princeton was ranked 64th in the nation in steals at 7.8 per game (still 7.8) and Saint Louis was 265th at 5.7.
-Princeton has won 11 of 16 road games this season and 10 of its last 12. Princeton's 11 wins on opponents' home floors are the program's most since the 1996-97 season, Sydney Johnson's senior year, when the Tigers won 13 on opponents' home floors.
-Princeton has won 20 of its last 24 games with the four losses coming by a combined 11 points.
-Through games of Mar. 21, Princeton had three players ranked in the top 250 in Division I in a statistical category. Douglas Davis is 87th with 2.4 threes per game. Dan Mavraides is 172nd with a .795 free-throw percentage. Marcus Schroeder is 64rd with a 2.12 assist-turnover ratio and 125th with 1.7 steals per game.
-Princeton is 5-1 when one of its senior centers, Pawel Buczak and Zach Finley, scores at least 10 points. Buczak had 12 last time out against IUPUI.
-Princeton returned to its most common starting lineup Monday night -- seniors Marcus Schroeder and Pawel Buczak, junior Dan Mavraides and sophomores Patrick Saunders and Douglas Davis -- using it for the 25th time in the last 27 games after starting the four seniors and Mavraides as each game could have been Princeton's last home game of the season.
-Princeton is 18-2 this season when it shoots 40 percent or better.
-Princeton is 10-0 when it shoots 50 percent or better.
-Princeton is 4-6 when it gets outrebounded and 18-2 when it controls the glass.
-Princeton is 14-0 this season when it scores more than 60 points, as it has done each of the last two games.
-Princeton is 15-1 this season when it leads at the half, 5-7 when it trails and 2-0 when it is tied. The loss to Brown was Princeton's only defeat of the season when it had a halftime lead.
-Heading into Wednesday's game, Princeton ranks No. 1 in the Ivy League on the season overall in four statistical categories, including scoring defense (52.8 ppg), field goal percentage defense (.394), three-point field goal percentage defense (.326) and rebounding defense (29.4).
-Princeton's records when each player reaches double-digit scoring: Ian Hummer (10-1), Dan Mavraides (16-3), Douglas Davis (15-3), Patrick Saunders (4-2), Zach Finley (3-0), Pawel Buczak (3-1), Kareem Maddox (5-1), Will Barrett (1-0), Marcus Schroeder (2-0) and Nick Lake (0-1).
