Men's Track & Field Earns Five Wins at Larry Ellis Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/17/10) - The Princeton men's track and field team won five events as they hosted the 10th annual Larry Ellis Invitational on April 16-17 at Weaver Stadium. Twenty-five teams competed in the non-scoring meet.
Freshman Conor McCullough won the hammer throw, throwing the international 6k hammer with a mark of 74.29 meters (243-09). Junior Craig Pearce was third with a mark of 60.64 (198-11).
Junior George Abyad took second in the discus launching it to 51.26 meters (168-02) and also placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 15.86 (52-00.50.)
Senior Eric Plummer finished second in the shot put at 16.58 (54-04.75). The Tigers took four of the top seven in the shot put, with Joel Karacozoff and Patrick Park included.
Karacozoff entered three events during the weekend and finished in the top 10 in all three. He was fifth in the shot put at 15.47, seventh in the discus at 47.07 and ninth in the hammer throw at 52.96.
Junior Justin Frick won the high jump clearing 2.12 meters (6-11.50).
Classmate Dion Lehman took second in the long jump reaching 7.27 meters (23-10.25).
Sophomore Austin Hollimon won the 200-meter dash, in his first try in the event this season. His mark of 21.46 was .20 seconds faster than the second-place competitor.
Junior Mike Eddy won the 400 at 47.76, the only collegiate sprinter to finish under 28 seconds in a pool of 45.
The 4x100 of Kashif Smith, Ricky Kearney, Ivan Charbonneau and Sebastian Steffen finished in third place at 41.75.
On Friday in the long distance races, sophomore Donn Cabral won the 5000-meter run at 13:58.24 His mark is currently the 18th best in the nation. Junior Mark Amirault was fourth at 14:04.61 out of the 99 runners competing.
In the 1500-meter run sophomore Trevor Van Ackeren was third out of 75. His time of 3:45.29 is currently the 26th best time in the nation. Sophomore Peter Callahan and junior Kyle Soloff came in sixth and seventh at 3:46.54 and 3:46.65, respectively.
Princeton will compete at the Penn Relays next weekend, April 22-24 at Franklin Field.
