PRINCETON, N.J. (5/9/10) - The Princeton men's track & field team took second in the 2010 Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonal Championships. With 152 points, the Tigers were just 36 points out of first place as Cornell won the title with 188 points.
After three events on day two and eight event totals, Princeton moved into first place in the team standings. After nine events the Tigers held a 23-point lead over the Big Red. Sophomore Donn Cabral won the steeplechase at 8:54.55 the only athlete to finish in under nine minutes with a six-second margin over Cornell's Adrian Dannemiller. After winning the 10,000-meter run last night, Cabral becomes the first ever 10k/steeple double champion in Heps history and the first Tigers to win the steeplechase since Robert Quinn in 1984.
Senior Eric Plummer won his third straight shot put title with a throw of 18.30 meters (60-00.50). His throw marked the first 60-foot throw at Heps since Brown's Gerry Donini in 1986.

Junior George Abyad was third with a throw of 50.55 (165-10) and senior Joel Karacozoff threw to 49.98 (164-00) for fourth place.
Junior Mark Amirault won his first individual Heps title with a victory in the 5000-meter run. He passed and held off Brown's Duriel Hardy to cruise in at 14:24.74. After Hardy took the lead on the last lap, Amirault used the final turn to kick it up a notch and ran in for the win. Amirault also earned a second-place finish in the 1500-meter run at 3:57.01.
Fellow classmate Kyle Soloff placed third in the 1500 with a time of 3:57.40, to give the Tigers 14 points in the event.
