Kareem Maddox Named to ESPN Most Respected Players List
February 20, 2011 | Men's Basketball
Princeton senior forward Kareem Maddox has gained recognition from ESPN's Jay Bilas for his outstanding play this season, as the ESPN personality has named Maddox to his "Most Respected Players" list.
Of Maddox, Bilas says:
"Kareem Maddox, Princeton: A senior who has seen the depths and is now leading his team toward the Ivy heights, Maddox has worked hard to become a versatile player with the most unique skill set in the Ivy League. He can post it, handle it and drive it, and he is a very good passer. On the other end, Maddox can guard inside or on the perimeter and is a great teammate that will do whatever is asked of him, including coming off the bench."
Maddox has played in all 25 games and has been a sixth man for the team the last 22 games. His .569 field goal percentage leads all regular players on the team, and the 6-8 forward adds a .769 free throw shooting percentage, a team-best 7.1 per game rebounding average, a total of 54 assists that ranks second on the team, a team-best 48 blocks, and an average of 13.6 points per game that is second on the team.
Maddox has led the team in scoring in eight games this season including each of the last three, a span during which he has averaged 19.3 points per game. He has also led the team in rebounding in 10 games this season, leading to three double-doubles. Maddox had back-to-back double-doubles during a stretch in late January, a first for a Princeton player in the last five years. He has also had a pair of 30-point games this season, with 30 against Siena and 31 at Tulsa, making him the first Princeton player since 1984 to have two 30-point games in a season.
His 48 blocks are the third-most in a single season at Princeton in the 35 years the stat has been kept, and his 100 career blocks are also the third most in Princeton annals.
