Take A Number: Jerseys Chosen for 2011-12 Season
August 19, 2011 | Men's Basketball
The four Princeton men's basketball rookies have chosen their numbers and the team's returners have stuck with what they had in the Ivy title-winning season of 2011 as the 2011-12 campaign draws nearer.
Denton Koon will wear jersey No. 4, last worn by Kyle Koncz '08 in the 2007-08 season. Brian Fabrizius will assume No. 11 from Bobby Foley '11, who wore that number last season.
Clay Wilson will wear jersey No. 23, last worn by Kareem Maddox '11 in his junior season of 2009-10 before the reigning Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year switched to No. 2 for his senior campaign. Bobby Garbade's No. 40 has been on the shelf the longest of any of the rookies' numbers, as Ben Gerig '94 appears to be the last Tiger to have worn that number in his freshman season of 1991-92.
Fabrizius's and Garbade's numbers are the same numbers they wore in high school.
The only retired number in program history belongs to Bill Bradley '65, whose No. 42, which he shared with football Heisman Trophy winner Dick Kazmaier '52, was retired in October 2008 across every Princeton athletics program. Banners for the retired jerseys were hung in the Jadwin Gymnasium lobby this week.
Princeton's 2011-12 schedule will be released as soon as it is finalized.
