Koon Named Ivy Men's Hoops Rookie of the Week
January 02, 2012 | Men's Basketball
Freshman Denton Koon has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for men's basketball following his exceptional performances in Princeton's 2-0 trip to Tallahassee, Fla., over the New Year holiday.
In Princeton's triple-overtime 75-73 win at Florida State, Koon had seven points and a career-best 10 rebounds. Two days later against Florida A&M in a 76-61 win, Koon had a career-best 13 points while adding two assists and a blocked shot.
The award is the first for Koon and is Princeton's second weekly Ivy honor this season after Ian Hummer's Player of the Week award on Dec. 19. Hummer was also the last Tiger to be named Ivy Rookie of the Week, doing so on Dec. 14, 2009 and Feb. 1, 2010.
Princeton (8-7) has won seven of its last nine games after a 1-5 start under first-year head coach Mitch Henderson '98 and will have one last pre-Ivy League contest Sunday against The College of New Jersey at Jadwin Gym. The Tigers will begin Ivy League play Jan. 13 at Cornell.
