Both Princeton and Lafayette let leads as large as nine points slip, Princeton doing so in the second half as Lafayette rallied to force overtime. Princeton overcame Lafayette outshooting the Tigers 58.3 percent to 45.2 percent by winning the turnover battle 15-9 and hitting 12 3-pointers. That led to Princeton taking 14 more field goal tries than the Leopards. Ben Hazel (14), Spencer Weisz (14) and Chris Clement (eight) had career-best scoring totals as Will Barrett led Princeton with 22 points.

• Princeton is 2-1 through the first three games for the first time since the 2009-10 season. If Princeton defeats Rice, the Tigers will stand at 3-1 for the first time since the 2006-07 season.

• The Tigers have two Texans on the roster, senior Chris Clement from Round Rock, and junior Daniel Edwards from Dallas.

• This will be the fourth meeting in the series between Princeton and Rice. The first came on Dec. 6, 1996, a 59-54 Princeton win in a Marquette-hosted tournament. The teams reunited for a home-and-home series in Jan. 2006 and Jan. 2007, each winning on its home floor. Princeton had the back end of that home-and-home series.

• This will be Princeton's first trip to Texas since the last visit to Rice on Jan. 5, 2006, a 52-41 defeat. Princeton's last win in Texas came on Dec. 27, 2004, a 59-51 victory over Tulane in a UTEP-hosted tournament. Prior to the 2006 game at Rice, Princeton had made only one visit to Houston, playing in a Houston-hosted tournament Dec. 16-17, 1983, the final season of the Phi Slama Jama era. Princeton defeated Santa Clara 75-53 in the first game but lost to then-Akeem Olajuwon and the No. 3 Cougars 65-40. Olajuwon had 21 points including five slam dunks, while Michael Young led the Cougars with 22 points.

• Princeton's last game and last win against a Conference USA school came on Dec. 12, 2010, a double-overtime 82-78 win at Tulsa.

• At least two people who played in the teams' first meeting back in 1996 will be in Tudor Fieldhouse Saturday, with Mitch Henderson's 12 points and Brian Earl's five helping the Tigers to their win. Gabe Lewullis '99 had a game-high 17 in that one.

• The Tigers have scored more points through their first three games this season than in any season since 1986-87. Princeton is averaging 71.7 points per game for a total of 215, and the '86-'87 team had 216. As one of those games in '86 came against Franklin & Marshall, this year's total is the most through three games against three Division I teams since the 1971-72 campaign, when the Tigers scored 258 points against Rutgers, Penn State and No. 2 North Carolina. The only loss during that stretch was to Penn State.

• Three-point shooting will be a stat to watch against Rice. Princeton is shooting .416 against its opponents from distance and allowing opponents to shoot .348. Rice is shooting .299 from beyond the arc and allowing its opponents to shoot just .246. Forty-nine percent of Rice's FG tries are from distance, while nearly 47 percent of Princeton's are.

• Princeton has averaged 26 3-point tries a game and makes an average of 11 per contest. Rice loves the three as well, trying an average of 24 a game while making an average of seven. Through Wednesday's games, Princeton ranked first in the Ivy in 3-point FG percentage and in threes per game.

• Freshmen have impacted both teams, with Sean Obi for Rice and Spencer Weisz for Princeton starting each of his team's games. Obi, at 6-9, has proven tough for Rice's opponents to contain on the glass, with Obi averaging a team-best 8.5 rebounds per game. Obi's .792 field goal percentage was also the best in Conference USA through Wednesday's games. Weisz's impact has been spread across the stats, as he's shooting .600 (9-15) in the early going, tying for third in rebounding at 4.7 rpg, and tying for second in assists at 3.0 apg.

• Eight Tigers have played in all three games, and six Tigers (Koon, Brase, Barrett, Sherburne, Hazel and Weisz) have accounted for 90 percent of the team's minutes. Among those six, Koon has come off the bench in all three games while the other five have been in the starting lineup.

• Princeton returns nearly 75 percent of its scoring from a year ago despite graduating reigning Ivy Player of the Year Ian Hummer '13. The team also returns 71 percent of its starts and 67 percent of its minutes, with Denton Koon, T.J. Bray, Will Barrett and Hans Brase all having started at least 18 games last season.

• Thirty-nine percent of Princeton's points this season have been scored by players who weren't on the 2012-13 roster, including Spencer Weisz (9.3 ppg), Ben Hazel (9.3 ppg), Jimmy Sherburne (8.0 ppg) and Peter Miller (1.3 ppg). Hazel, a junior, and Sherburne, a senior, took the 2012-13 season off.

• The Tigers have a six-member freshman class and four of them have seen game action, including Khyan Rayner, Steven Cook, Peter Miller and Spencer Weisz. Miller has played in all three games, and Weisz has started all three.

• All four of Rice's games this season have ended with both teams scoring in the 60s and the margin between one and nine points. Rice's 64.8 ppg was the lowest in Conference USA through Wednesday's games, but the Owls have four players averaging double-figure points. The Owls' 63.0 ppg allowed was second-best in Conference USA, and the team's .246 3-point FG percentage allowed was the league's best.

• It's a Mercer County run for the Owls, who'll head to Santa Clara's Cable Car Classic after hosting Princeton. Rider, fellow Mercer County denizens with Princeton, will be waiting for the Owls on the first day of the event next Friday.

• Rice opened the season with a 69-60 win over St. Thomas from the NAIA, followed by a 63-62 home loss to Southeastern Louisiana and a 68-65 loss at Texas A&M. While the Tigers were holding off Lafayette Wednesday night, Rice closed out a 63-61 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

• Princeton is one of two Ivy schools Rice will face this season, as the Owls will take on Harvard in Houston on Jan. 4.

• The Owls lost both of their double-digit scorers from last season's team, with Tamir Jackson (17.7 ppg) lost to graduation and Julian DeBose (10.4) transferring to Florida Gulf Coast. Those two accounted for 46.4 percent of the team's scoring last season, though the Owls return 53.2 percent of their points from a year ago.

• The Owls have used two starting lineups over the first four games, with Max Guercy (5-9 So., 13.5 ppg), Austin Ramijak (6-3 Sr., 11.5 ppg), Sean Obi (6-9 Fr., 10.5 ppg) and Seth Gearhart (6-7 Jr., 6.0 ppg) starting all four games. Marcus Jackson (6-3 Fr., 11.0 ppg) started in place of Keith Washington (6-1 So., 4.0 ppg) the last two games.

Mitch Henderson '98 is in his third season as Princeton's head coach. His overall record at Princeton is 39-24.

Henderson is aiming to become the first Princeton coach since John Thompson III '88 to have winning seasons in each of his first three campaigns. He would be the sixth Princeton coach to accomplish that, following Frederick Luehring (1912-20), Butch van Breda Kolff '44 (1962-67), Pete Carril (1967-96), Bill Carmody (1996-2000) and Thompson III '88 (2000-04).

Henderson is in ninth place on the Princeton all-time wins list, with predecessor Sydney Johnson '97 in eighth with 66 wins over four seasons. With 37 wins through his first two seasons, Henderson was fourth on the list of wins for Princeton coaches through their first two campaigns, behind Carmody (51), van Breda Kolff (39), and Carril (39).

Henderson was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 1998, an honorable mention All-Ivy Leaguer in 1997, and was a two-time Ivy Rookie of the Week in 1994-95.

Henderson graduated as the fourth-leading assist man in program history (kept since 1974-75) and is now fifth, having been surpassed by one of his players, Ian Hummer '13. Henderson graduated fifth in career assists (kept since 1974-75) and is now eighth, having been passed by former teammate Gabe Lewullis '99, current San Diego Padre Will Venable '05 and Marcus Schroeder '10.

Henderson is one of seven Princeton alumni who are current Division I head coaches, including John Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Joe Scott '87 (Denver), Mike Brennan '94 (American), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond), Sydney Johnson '97 (Fairfield) and Craig Robinson '83 (Oregon State). The Tigers are second only to North Carolina (eight) in alumni as current D-I head coaches.

Prior to Princeton, Henderson coached at Northwestern for 11 seasons under his final head coach at Princeton, Bill Carmody, from 2000-11.
