Weisz Claims Third Ivy League Rookie of the Week Honor
January 27, 2014 | Men's Basketball
Princeton freshman Spencer Weisz won his third Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor after co-leading Princeton with 15 points in Sunday's win over Kean.
Weisz, who won back-to-back Rookie of the Week honors in December, moved alongside Brown's Norman Hobbie with a league-best three awards so far this season.
Weisz scored his 15 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the field and 3 of 5 from beyond the arc, adding four assists in 17 minutes. On the season, Weisz has 142 points and could become the highest-scoring Princeton freshman since Douglas Davis '12 in 2008-09. Davis scored 333 points to lead Princeton that season, and the highest-scoring freshmen since have been Ian Hummer '13 in 2009-10 (214), Denton Koon in 2011-12 (162) and Hans Brase in 2012-13 (150).
Weisz and the Tigers (12-3, 0-1 Ivy) will head to New England this weekend to take on Harvard (15-3, 2-0) and Dartmouth (7-9, 0-2) Friday and Saturday.
