Hummer '13 Joins Top German League
January 28, 2014 | Men's Basketball
Princeton alumnus Ian Hummer '13 signed Monday with Ratiopharm Ulm, a team in the Bundesliga, the top German basketball league.
The reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, Hummer finished his Princeton career as the second-leading scorer in program history behind only Bill Bradley '65, a teammate of his father Ed Hummer. Ian Hummer was a two-time first-team All-Ivy League honoree, an honorable mention All-America as a senior and helped lead Princeton to the NCAA Tournament in 2011.
Hummer could make his professional debut Tuesday, when Ulm faces JSF Nanterre, a team in the top French league, in a Eurocup game.
Ulm is presently in seventh place in the 18-team Basketball Bundesliga, from which the top eight will make the playoffs. Ulm is located in southern Germany, about 60 miles southeast of Stuttgart and 90 miles west of Munich.
Hummer joins Judson Wallace '05 and Mason Rocca '00 among Tiger alumni in European basketball. Both Wallace and Rocca are playing in the Italian leagues, Wallace for Olimpia Milano in the Serie A league and Rocca with Fileni BPA Jesi in the DNA Gold league.
