Petrie '70 to Receive Induction to Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame
October 05, 2014 | Men's Basketball
Princeton basketball alumnus Geoff Petrie '70 will receive induction into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame, the organization has announced.
The induction class, which includes Petrie among 17 honorees, will be recognized Nov. 13 at the Society Hill Sheraton in Philadelphia. Information on the induction can be found here. Petrie is an alumnus of Springfield High School in Delaware County, Pa.
While at Princeton, Petrie graduated as the program's third-leading scorer with 1,321 points in three seasons, behind only Bill Bradley '65 and Pete Campbell '62. He remains one of only three players in program history to score more than 500 points in a season along with Bradley and Brian Taylor '84. Petrie was named a Basketball News third-team All-America in 1970 and was an All-Ivy League pick in all three seasons.
After Princeton, Petrie played six seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers before returning to the NBA in a front-office role nearly a decade after his retirement. With Portland, Petrie advanced to become the team's senior vice president for operations before moving to the Sacramento Kings in 1994. Petrie remained with the Kings, becoming the team president, before ending his time with the organization in 2013. While there, Petrie reunited with his coach at Princeton, Pete Carril, who served as an assistant coach with the Kings.
