Men's Cross Country Finishes Fourth At NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional
November 14, 2014 | Men's Cross Country
NCAA Mid-Atlantic Men's Regional Cross-Country Results
The Mid-Atlantic men's cross country rankings this week went like this: Villanova, Georgetown, Penn State, Princeton, Navy and Penn.
Then the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional field went out for the 10K at Penn State Friday afternoon, and here was the order of finish: Villanova, Georgetown, Penn State, Princeton, Navy and Penn. It wasn't until the seventh place spot that the regional finish differed from the rankings, as UMBC went from 10th in the poll to seventh on the course.
So the rankings were pretty spot on. Not that Princeton didn't come really, really close to shaking them up a bit.
Princeton finished fourth with 88 points, one spot behind Penn State who had 87. Princeton's best shot at getting into the NCAA championship meet was to finish ahead of Penn State and get an at-large bid, something that almost came to be.
Princeton's top finisher was senior Sam Pons, who finished 10th in 30:25, one second ahead of teammate Michael Sublette, the hero of Princeton's Ivy League Heptagonal championship two weeks ago, when he finished in second.
All five Princeton runners placed in the top 25 to earn All-Region honors.
